Mission Hills enters wellness

25 Aug 2006
BY RUBY GONZALEZ

After establishing itself as having the world’s largest golf club, Mission Hills has started to make its presence felt in the field of wellness. Mission Hills Spa is located within Mission Hills Golf Club, which sits in over 25-kilometre square of land that stretches from Shenzhen to Dongguan.

“The Mission Hills Spa will have three distinct spa concepts to ensure a wide range of experiences and offerings that can appeal to a very diverse cross-section of the market,” said Spa GM, Peggy Liong. The concepts are under Clubhouse Spa, Resort Spa and Destination Spa. (See side bar.) An initial investment of HK$123 million (about US$15.8) has been poured into the project.

With the range of its offerings, Spa is eyeing a broad-based market. “Our primary customers are our members, hotel guests and residential owners. We are also targeting individuals and group travellers from Hong Kong and throughout the region, be they golfers and non-golfers, multi-generational families and savvy spagoers drawn to China’s burgeoning spa scene,” Liong said.

In China, she said that the “awareness of a genuine spa experience is still growing” and with this, educating the local market will be one their tasks. She also said that staff recruitment and training will be a major challenge because of the group’s commitment to world-class standards. “It’s for this reason that we felt the critical need to establish our own academy in line with spa development.”

Spa will liaise with travel agents in order to have a better idea of what the market wants. “We will work closely with travel agents to design holiday packages targeting leisure travellers and these travel packages will definitely include a major spa element” she said. “After all, the spa plays a significant role in complementing the over all Mission Hills experience of our guests.”
