Being new means having everything new

24 Nov 2006
BY RUBY GONZALEZ

For Sofitel Wanda Beijing, which is scheduled to be operational in the middle of 2007, being the newest kid on the block means starting with everything new.

GM, Gerhard Zimmer, enumerated the advantages brought by the circumstances. “Latest in architectural design complemented with up-to-date technology, environmental friendly machinery as well as energy saving technology.

The interior design can be adapted to the architecture as well as to the location of the project. In Beijing, which has rich Chinese culture, this can be combined with French culture to achieve a crosscultural experience and express the partnership between Chinese and French companies.

“For me there are no disadvantages because we are starting from a clean slate and do not have to fight old habits. We set the standard and rally all our team members to do their best,” he said.

Sofitel Wanda is a deluxe brand with a strong French interest. It will be going after European and international companies which have offi ces in the central business district area, MICE market, government and embassy business as well as high-end local companies and highend leisure markets. “We have started our sales and marketing activity in order to be well-known by the time we are opening for business,” he said.

The 2007 opening will give the hotel about a year to get ready for the fl urry of business that is expected to come with the Beijing’s hosting of 2008 Olympic Games.

He said being able to show the real stuff Sofi tel Wanda is made of will be propped up by “a good foundation, good preparations, excellent training and a highly-motivated team ready who do their best every minute of the day.”
