Namibia rolls out red carpet for China market (SPECIAL REPORT: CITM 2007)

Daily news, 05 Nov 2007
Mia M. Gonzalez

KUMMING - Namibia will hit the ground running in its campaign for the China outbound market, beginning with organised tours for Chinese travel operators and agents to familiarise them with the diverse tourism products of the African nation.

Namibia has "excellent" infrastructure to support the anticipated inflow of Chinese tourists, said Digu Naobeb, Namibia Tourism chief executive officer.

"We are willing also to bring in the Chinese travel operators and the tour operators to come and learn about Namibia, to educate them about Namibia. That would put them in a better position to understand what Namibia is all about and they can better sell Namibia to the Chinese travellers," Naobeb said.

He said Namibia's participation at this year's CITM, its first after it obtained Approved Destination Status, provides a "very exciting platform" for the Namibian travel industry as it will provide an inside look into the Chinese market and give interested parties a chance to be acquainted with its tourism products.

Naobeb said that the Namibian exhibitors have received many "very positive" inquiries.
