Hong Kong’s 2007 visitor arrivals and spending sets new records

Breaking news, 07 Jan 2008

HONG KONG – Hong Kong’s tourism industry has notched up record-breaking results in 2007, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced today. Provisional figures show that total arrivals for 2007 have surpassed the 28 million mark, representing an increase of more than 10 percent versus the same period in 2006.

Latest figures also show that the Total Expenditure Associated to Inbound Tourism (TEAIT) is likely to break 2006’s record of HK$119.43 billion (US$15.32 billion), rising beyond HK$130 billion (US$16.671 billion). Based on the current estimates, per capita spending by overnight arrivals will likely be around HK$5,100 (US$654), as compared with HK$4,799 (US$615) in 2006

All market regions achieved positive gain in 2007. In particular, double-digit increases were registered for the regions of Mainland China, Europe, Africa & the Middle East, and Australia, New Zealand & South Pacific, as well as for the high-potential markets of South Korea and the Philippines, and such emerging markets as Russia and the Middle East.
