Tasmania gains foothold in Hong Kong

Breaking news, 30 Apr 2008
Ruby Gonzalez

HONG KONG - Tourism Tasmania is riding on the momentum fueled by a travelogue shown on a Hong Kong channel in February.

A good indicator of its immediate impact are the figures for advanced bookings for March, April and May, cited Tasmanian Minister for Tourism and Economic Development, Paula Wriedt.

The minister met with Hong Kong travel agents on Monday and received feedback that The Last Paradise broadened their understanding of the destination and what it offers. Wriedt, in return, asked what the Ministry for Tourism and Economic Development and Tourism Tasmania could do to assist them in pushing for the destination in the market.

She said they would be able to act on the agents’ feedback within two months.

“I think we need to capitalise on the momentum and keep on going. We just can’t just sort of sit around for six months and decide on what we want to do because by then people would have forgotten about the travelogue,” she said.

The Last Paradise, hosted by popular Canton actor and singer, Eason Chan, highlighted the natural beauty and wild life of Tasmania and the high quality of experiences it offers.
