Nielsen: Chinese travellers follow their palate when they travel

Daily news, 07 May 2008

SHANGHAI – Nielsen’s latest China Outbound Travel Monitor reveals that when choosing a leisure destination, Chinese people are following their taste buds as they travel around the world.

Affordability topped the list of key factors (61 percent) influencing Chinese people’s choice of destination, but good food was a close second with 58 percent of respondents considering it an important factor when choosing a leisure destination.

Chinese outbound tourists also considered safety to be a very important influencer, with nearly six out of 10 (57 percent) taking safety into account when choosing a travel destination. “Eco and nature” in fourth place highlights the fact that Chinese consumers are beginning to acknowledge the importance of the environment when selecting a holiday destination.
