Bavaria targets Asia-Pacific

Breaking news, 13 Aug 2008
Natalie Chen

SINGAPORE – Bavaria is expecting more arrivals from Asia-Pacific with Lufthansa’s new Munich service operating five times a week, offering travellers 1,105 seats between this country and Singapore. Fifty percent of the travellers are expected to come from Australia and New Zealand as they feed into Singapore, and the rest from Asia.

Bavaria welcomes 100 million visitors a year, with only 20 percent from international travel. The target is to raise that percentage with more visitors from Asia, and Bavarian tourism officials have embarked on a two week regional road show.

Passenger numbers from Singapore are expected to reach more than 14,000 in 2008 reflecting the growing interest among Asians to discover scenic Southern Germany.

“Last year Bavaria counted 165,000 overnight stays from South-east Asia and Tirol (in Austria) registered nearly 11,000 overnight stays from Asian travellers. We expect these numbers to grow even higher this year with the launch of Lufthansa’s new non stop connection from Munich to Singapore,” said Richard Adam, general manager, Bayern Tourism Marketing Gmbh.
