A day in the life of James Stevenson

01 Aug 2008

Date: August 5

Name: James Stevenson

Job title: EVP, Asia Pacific, Hogg Robinson Group

Place: Singapore

0630

Have breakfast with my wife, nine-year old son and seven-year old daughter. We talk about how the kids are doing in school and the week-end schedule.

I bring my son for wakeboarding every Saturday morning and go horse-riding at the Polo Club with my daughter.

0730

Arrive at work after a 20-minute or so drive. I have a cup of coffee and think about agenda or important issues for the day. I am able to concentrate very well in the morning as phone calls and interruptions are minimal. I give an overview of the day’s calendar.

0900

Quiet time at work. In contrast, I would be at my busiest when I have many business trips lined up for the week. I am required to travel in the region very frequently. It can be taxing at times.

1200

Time for lunch. I usually pack lunch back to the office from nearby restaurants.

1300

Visit the gym at an adjacent office building for a workout during lunch time. I have to keep in shape to prepare for the Absa Cape Epic, a cycle race in African next March, which spans approximately

900 kilometres.

And then, there is also the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2008 at the end of the year, which will be my sixth time participating.

1600

Client meeting with Credit Suisse to discuss Asia Pacific related issues.

1900

Before leaving the office, I confirm tomorrow’s schedule with my assistant.

2130

Arrive home. Take a shower and then have dinner with my wife. When I need to have dinner elsewhere, I still usually make a beeline for home afterwards because I will be very tired from the day’s work. I spend time with family on weekends.

2300

Go to bed after catching news on the TV.
