Skyscanner, Europe’s number one flight search engine, is now moving to emulate its massive European success in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.
Skyscanner has already seen significant growth in traffic from users in Asia with yearly increases of up to 90%, and with its newly launched Singapore office and Asia-Pacific team Skyscanner aims to raise its traffic from Asian-Pacific countries to 13 million users per month, generating US$2 billion in downstream revenues per annum for its airline partners.
Presently Skyscanner is the only resource in Asia-Pacific where a user can compare flights from all low-cost carriers in the region, as well as flagship carriers including Singapore Airlines, Qantas and Air China, and fares from online travel agents such as Zuji and Asia Travel. The site offers flight search in: Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Malay, as well as Japanese, Chinese and Korean.
The Skyscanner move comes at a time when Southeast Asia is seeing massive growth in the number of airlines with more than forty low-cost carriers now serving the region. This has created an even greater need for a single, comprehensive site which allows travellers to find and compare flights quickly and easily, securing them the very best airfares.
Commented Ewan Gray, Director of Skyscanner Asia-Pacific, “Operating in a marketplace fragmented by language and culture is notoriously challenging, but we’ve already done it successfully in Europe, and we’re now applying our vast knowledge, experience, and industry relations to the Asia-Pacific market. We’ve already seen great appetite for the Skyscanner product from both travellers and the airline industry here, and we’re incredibly excited now to be growing Skyscanner in Asia.”
